During the summer of my sophomore year of high school I traveled down to Mexico with my church youth group to spend a week at the Carmen Serdan Mission for handicapped children. While there we broke a 30ft wide fire line around the property to help prevent the possible spread of brush fires, we also were blessed with the opportunity to work with the children (feeding, changing, playing, singing, reading, ect.) Similar to most mission trips where people say they were greatly changed by the experience, I truly was. Being able to work with physical therapy programs with these amazing people (most were children, but a hand full were 20's-40's) was an extremely rewarding experience. Going to Linfield and majoring in Exercise Science was greatly influenced by my experience on the trip. I want to help people, and for a good four years my idea of how to do this was to become a physical therapist, my dream was to work with stroke victims and help them learn mobility again. Though my plans have changed, God has continued to bless me with a desire to help people. My internship at the Public Health Department this year was another major stepping stone for guiding my path, rather than working with PT I am now going on for nursing in the hopes of getting a Masters in Public Health afterwards to hopefully get into the policy and decision making of the health care system as well to work the educational and promotional needs of health. God has changed my path many times but as long as I keep heading His word all shall be well.
A friend of mine from Linfield (T Love) took a semester off during his sophomore year of college and went to the mission for several months. A few weeks ago he returned for a 2nd trip. While looking at his FB pictures my heart was warmed to see how well everyone appears to be doing and how much they have grown in the last 6 years. After reminiscing I started searching for more information and pictures. Most of the pictures I am including are from either T Love or from other groups who have traveled down there, hopefully I will be able to also included some of my own from my original trip in a future update. I hope you enjoy and are able to see some of the wondersous works God is doing in the lives of these 20+ folks living at the mission in the small community of Carmen Serdan Mexico

I remember 6 years ago when Sela could not even be upright due to her CP, and now she is up and smiling, my how God has worked with her physical therapy. She was the one who sparked my interest in the movement of the human body the most.

I am trying to find some of my own pictures from my trip 6 years ago, but I am having computer issues. Perhaps I will be able to update this post with some older pictures so we can see the growth of the kiddos over a 6 years time span.
Awesome Steph! When ya going again?
